Health and the environment at work: the need for solutions

"It is the delegates who will make this Conference a success, from the quality of your papers to your engagement with the speakers"

We are excited to be hosting the 27th International Epidemiology in Occupational Health (EPICOH) conference 2019 in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Since first meeting in Helsinki in 1981, EPICOH has held regular scientific conferences to promote communication about epidemiological studies on the health effects of occupational exposures among epidemiologists, toxicologists, hygienists and exposure analysts, and other occupational health scientists.  The programme will include a one day conference for SCOM and Modernet delegates.

At this meeting, we also aim to encourage debate about the role of the occupational epidemiologist. Is it enough for us to objectively identify causal risk factors and elucidate dose-response relationships, or should we be more involved in public policy and workplace intervention to improve worker health globally? For this reason we have chosen as the theme of this year’s conference “Health and the environment at work: the need for solutions”.

EPICOH 2019 will begin with a welcome reception at the New Zealand Parliament buildings (The Beehive) on Monday 29th April, followed by three full days of scientific sessions at the main conference venue The Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa from 30th April to the 2nd May.

As is the tradition with EPICOH conferences, we will also have a full social programme including a conference dinner to be held on International Workers’ Day May 1st.
