Independant Chair of Tomatoes NZ
Alasdair is Chair of the Port of Napier Limited, Silverstripe Ltd, Optimal Products Limited, Radium Ltd, and industry body Tomatoes New Zealand. He also Chairs the Hawke’s Bay branch of Export NZ. He is a retired Partner of Deloitte NZ, with specialist skills in economic development, strategy facilitation and business growth. He is also an (accidental) avocado grower.
A former Civil Engineer, he completed his MBA over 25 years ago, and has worked in a diverse range of sectors within New Zealand and overseas. While working as an engineer, he was City Construction Engineer for Gisborne City Council for a period. He specialized in chemical stabilization of clay-rich roading aggregates, and built the only potassium chloride stabilized road since Roman times.
He has worked in the electricity industry, the information technology sector, and the business consulting sector. As a Partner in Deloitte, he was responsible for leading some of the bigger national strategy projects in the primary sector. Most recently, he has led the development of the Hawkes Bay Regional Economic Development Strategy.
He is keenly interested in economic development generally, the primary sector in particular, and he is intrigued by the way in which the web is changing the world, particularly the fusion between social media and business.
