Site Tours

The EEA is offering the opportunity to attend one of two pre-conference site tours located within the Auckland region. These site visits will be held from approximately 9.30am to 12.30pm on Tuesday 25 June 2019.  If you would like to book a place on one of the tours please do so via the conference registration form.

Please note that numbers are limited so it is recommended that you book early to avoid disappointment. Due to the sensitive nature of intellectual and/or production technology, EEA and the Conference Organiser have the right to refuse individual registrations to the Site Tours if from a competing company.


Transpower Otahuhu Substation Tour

On this two hour long tour you will get the opportunity to view the 220kV GIS, this will include the installation and comparison with the traditional ODS and how it can be built in a built up area.

You must bring the following PPE requirements with you:

  • Hard hat
  • Overalls Cal 8 Fire retardant
  • Glasses
  • Steal cap shoes

TransNet NZ Site Tour

Join us for a detailed overview of a fully operating Micro Grid consisting of 150kW onsite solar installation, 30kW/130kWh Vanadium Redox Flow Technology Storage system and the software used to allocate the energy created and stored for the most efficient consumption.

TransNet NZ Limited has made a commitment to sustainability and reducing our impact on the environment, by doing this we have gained extensive insights to help us assist others do the same. TransNet is ISO 14001 and ISO 14064-1 approved as well as having Carbon Managed status. Some of our sustainability initiatives include the latest energy efficient LED lighting including motion and light sensors throughout the building. Collection and storage of rain water from the roof of our building which is used to water our gardens (including our staff vegetable garden) and flush our toilets. We currently recycle 3 cubic metres of plastic each day and more than 27,000kg of cardboard per year, we are constantly working with our suppliers to reduce excess packaging and ensure wherever we can, packaging materials are recyclable. We even supply excess energy we’ve generated, back to the grid on occasion.

Hi-vis vests will be provided for the tour around the Micro Grid and Warehouse.
