Biography
Raka Taviri holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical from the University of Technology, Lae City in Papua New Guinea. He spent the first 30 years in the electricity utility industry in PNG working with the country’s national electricity supplier, namely PNG Power Ltd. He has very wide experience in power generation, transmission, distribution and retail sales.
In late 2006, he joined the water industry working with the country’s national water and waste water utility called Water PNG Ltd. He has been the Managing Director of Water PNG Ltd since 2012. In mid-2018, he was appointed as the Acting Managing Director of Eda Ranu, the water utility responsible for Port Moresby city, the nation’s capital.
With the recent major reforms in the SOE sector by the national government, Mr Taviri was tasked to merge the two water utilities, namely Eda Ranu the water utility that looks after the Port Moresby city and Water PNG Ltd.
Overall Mr Taviri has been in the water and electricity utility sector for over 40 years.
He has served on the Pacific Water & Waste Water Association Board proper and its Committees in the last four years. He was elected Chairman at the last AGM in 2018.
